ECB - European Certification Body

The blue certification mark

The European Certification Body GmbH was founded in 2011 as a neutral certification body. Up to its foundation, the certification of physical safety products has been carried out by the International Security Association ESSA – The International Security Association. The successor organization of the research and testing association for safes and vault systems (short: FuP). In 1967 FuP was founded by the member companies of the VDMA (German Engineering Federation). The foundation began a comprehensive standardization activity for cash cabinets and vault systems, which since then has significantly influenced the standardization of mechanical safety containers, initially in Germany, later also increasingly on the European and international market. The guidelines were registered with the RAL (Reichs-Committee for delivery conditions) as binding classification bases.

Already in 1992, FuP was accredited by the accrediation body DATech Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle Technik e.V. as a certification body according to the predecessor standard of ISO / IEC 17065, thus confirming the competence to classify products for protection against burglary and fire protection products of different safety levels or quality seals.

In 2014, the changeover to the accreditation standard ISO/IEC 17065 that is still valid today took place.

In particular, in order to offer a one-stop service for holders of product certificates in the physical security industry, the ECB's portfolio was expanded in 2023 to include accreditation according to ISO/IEC 17021-1, for the certification of quality management systems according to ISO 9001 (IAF 17,18 and 19). Here, ECB sees the focus of its certification activities in small and medium-sized enterprises.
