Your way to the ECB•S certificate

The following documents give information about all relevant aspects of the certification of your product. These documents are available in German and English.

Certification guidelines

The ESSA Certification Guidelines specify the certification process with all requirements the
applicant needs to satisfy for

Burglary Resistance Products (ECB•S C01)
Fire Resistance Products (ECB•S C02)
High Security Locks (ECB•S C03)
Fire Safety Storage Cabinets (ECB•S C04)

In the annex to these guidelines, you will find application forms for the issue of a certificate as well as a list of the ESSA-recognised testing laboratories.

Lock list (ECB•S R01)

The certification of secure storage units requires the use of type tested high security locks whose installation has been permitted by the ECB•S. The latest lock list shows recognised locks of different construction and design (key and combination locks as well as electronic locks) including the lock classes according to EN 1300 (A, B, C and D).

Guideline for the preparation of a standard procedure for service, repair and modification operations on ECB·S-certified secure storage units (ECB·S R02)

The high security standard on ECB·S certified secure storage units respectively depends on the interplay between design, high-quality materials and approved components. Just one wrong spare part (e.g. lock, bolt work) or one improperly performed service or repair work may strongly reduce the burglar-proof properties of a secure storage unit. In order not to jeopardize this optimum protection, services and retrofittings on certified secure storage units must only be performed by the skilled staff authorized by the manufacturer. Therefore, the European Certification Board has put into effect the Guideline ECB·S R02 for the preparation of a standard procedure for service, repair and modification operations on ECB·S-certified secure storage units bearing the date June 2006. The Guideline includes a sample of an installation protocol with minimum requirements.

Requirements on strongrooms in solid construction and/or modular design (ECB•S R03)

This document gives explanations and describes the requirements for the design and construction of strongrooms. It provides the manufacturer with a simplified testing and certification procedure and the basis for the use of more cost-favourable methods for the production of strongroom walls of resistance grades V to XIII in solid construction. Certification is based on the testing criteria according to the European standard EN 1143-1. The specified requirements to ECB•S R03 are no additional testing conditions!

External quality surveillance of filling materials for security products

(in preparation as ECB•S R05)

This guideline shall form the basis for the supervision of the supply and processing of fillers and filling materials as well as their placement into the series products of the ECB•S certificate holders.

Scale of fees (ECB•S F01)

This document shows the fees charged for product certifications and permits for design changes as well as the extension and modification of certificates. In addition, the scale of fees gives a survey of the costs of the preparation of reports about company audits and external quality surveillance as well as for the ECB•S certification marks.

For ESSA members, the accruing fees according to ECB•S F01 are credited up to the amount of the fixed and variable membership dues. Additional cost in connection with the certification will only arise, if they are higher than the annual membership dues.
